Oxidative Stress and Antioxidants

OXIS presently holds the rights to 4 therapeutic classes of compounds in the treatment of oxidative stress, and has focused commercialization programs in clinical cardiovascular markers, including MPO (myeloperoxidase) and GPx (glutathione peroxidase), as well as the super-potent antioxidant, Ergothioneine, that is planned to be introduced as an over-the-counter nutraceutical supplement.

Oxis recently launched a human and veterinary sales and marketing campaign for ERGO and this scientific validation from the University of Cologne is expected to enhance the Company’s efforts in this area.

Ergothioneine considered as one of the most potent and effective in fighting oxidative stress, and is also the best antioxidant for therapeutics, cosmeceutical and even nutraceutical.

Oxidative stress is also caused by inflammation, exposure to cigarette smoke, pollution, UV light, radiation, certain drugs and other conditions and this stress is increases as we age.
